Before the painters arrive you will want to take care of a few things in the rooms that are scheduled to be painted.
First, remove any pictures, artwork or other objects that are hanging on your walls and remove the nails that are securing them if you can do so without damaging the wall. Also, take down curtains or draperies and remove any small area rugs.
Next, remove any light switch covers and tape the screws to the back of the plate. Store them in a drawer in that room so you will know exactly where they go.
Finally, remove any and all objects from the tops of the furniture in the room so when the painters move the furniture nothing will be broken or misplaced.

Cut back shrubbery and any remove any tree branches touching your house. Not only will this enable the painters to move freely about the house while they are painting, but it will also prevent any marring of the wet paint. This is good practice even after your house has been painted. Letting bushes and trees rub up against the house and shade your walls can lead to mildew and mold. Pests that live in shrubs and on trees can easily make their way onto and into your home. Being vigilant about your landscape will not only help preserve the integrity of the structure, but also enhance the curb appeal of your home.
