Colors of the Year – 2024.  What could be more exciting in the world of design?  Every year, the top brands in paint, color and stains do their research into the new trends so you don’t have to.  These “color of the year” choices influence everything from fashion to home design.  Among those chosen colors is a wide variety of options – something for everyone, so to speak.  Here’s a quick peek at the leading paint brands and the colors they have chosen for 2024. SHERWIN WILLIAMS 

Sherwin Williams has selected Upward (SW 6239) as its color of the year.  Upward is a light blue with gray undertones that is perfect for kitchen, office, bathroom or bedroom.  It is a breath of fresh air that you might expect from a coastal breeze.  It is cool and relaxing.  Sue Wadden, director of color marketing at Sherwin Williams says, “It brings to life that carefree, sunny day energy that elicits a notion of contentment and peace.”  

PANTONE

While Pantone does not make paint, it does provide color standards used by brands and manufacturers of paint.  This is Pantone’s 25th anniversary for it Color of the Year program and Pantone has chosen Peach Fuzz (Pantone 13-1023) for 2024.  Peach Fuzz is a soft, pinkish-orange that radiates warmth and modern elegance.  It is cozy and emotional and sets the tone for your peaceful surroundings.  Paired with greens or blues, it is often used in living and dining areas, as well as dens and bathrooms.

BENJAMIN MOORE

Benjamin Moore decided on a celestial, blue-violet combination called Blue Nova (825) for 2024.  Encompassing an adventurous spirit and inspiring new experiences, Blue Nova.  It pairs well with creamy whites and light grays, such as White Dove, Classic Gray or Revere Pewter.  It is truly a “whole house” color, so explore the possibilities from painting whole rooms, accent walls, or half-walls (above or below wainscoting or chair rail..

BEHR

The color of the year for Behr is a soft black called Cracked Pepper (PPU 18-01).  Available exclusively at Home Depot, Sarah Fishburne, director of trend and design, says, “It is an anchor color that doesn’t have to be reinvented.”  It is so versatile that it can be used with any design style. And – added bonus- it is a great color for exteriors, too.  Use it on a front door, for shutters or trim and gutters.  

GLIDDEN 

Limitless (PPG1091-3) is Glidden’s Color of the Year for 2024.  Although described as honey beige, it exhibits hints of buttery yellow/beige and has the versatility of a neutral.  Glidden color experts encourage using this flexible neutral anywhere – paint your kitchen or the cabinets, use it on the ceiling or in any living area because it works with any existing decor – old or new.

VALSPAR

Valspar is celebrating its 15th anniversary in a big way, by naming Renew Blue (8003-37D) as it Color of the Year 2024!  Renew Blue combines soothing tones of blue with undertones of green and gray to create the perfect hue to go anywhere in your home.  Sue Kim, Valspar’s director of color marketing says, “Inspired by fleeting elements like fog, mist, clouds and glacier lakes, Renew Blue elevates the everyday mood, encourages self-expression and evokes a feeling of balance and calm…”
