Beautiful entries and foyers are the welcoming entrance to your home. You want them to be inviting and to make a great first impression! And that first impression is usually formed in the first 60 – 90 seconds. Regardless of the size of your foyer you can make a positive statement with these tips and tricks. Create the impact you want to make.
Tip # 1: Statement Chandelier or Light Fixture
Step back and take a good look at your current light fixture. It may be the standard contractor light fixture that the builder put in every home. Or it may just be a little outdated depending on the age of your home. It is the first thing guests see in your home and it sets the tone for the entire space.
If you have a flush mount fixture, you may want to consider a semi-flush mount fixture to give a little more depth perception. If you are looking for a statement piece, choose a chandelier that fits the size of your entry space. Make sure you don’t go too big or too small for the area.
Tip # 2: Add a Console or Sideboard
Choose a sideboard, console or even a long side table to “ground” the space – if your entryway is wide enough. You don’t want to crowd the area or make it hard to navigate. Keep it light and airy by displaying plants, arrangements, baskets or even adding a lamp.
Tip # 3 – Don’t Forget a Focal Point
The focal point can be a decorative mirror or an eye-catching piece of artwork. A mirror is a practical accessory for your entry. It adds depth and interest and of course, has practical uses as you head out the door. Also, it reflects light and makes the space appear larger. Carefully selected artwork incorporates color and interest. Choose your style – modern, farmhouse, impressionistic – as a segue to the rest of your home.
Tip # 4 – Choose Your Color
Color sets the mood for the overall ambiance of your home. Dynamic color combinations stimulate the imagination. If your foyer is small you may want to opt for something light that opens up the space. That doesn’t necessarily mean white. There is an unending (almost!) selection of colors in various tones and hues of white, cream, and beige. Don’t limit yourself or your imagination. Color choices are endless. Greige, blues, various shades of green or even a bold red. Just be sure to get samples and try your colors out before you commit. If you do make a mistake, the area is usually small enough to afford a repaint.
