Fall is just around the corner, so it’s time to think about decorating for fall and Halloween – especially if you have kids!  This is a season everyone loves – the weather is cooler, football season is here and pumpkin spice lattes are everywhere.  Let’s create some seasonal curb appeal for your home.

GETTING STARTED

Step one in decorating for fall and Halloween is just to get outside and tidy up.

  • Cut the grass, rake out and edge flower beds and fluff up with new pine straw or the mulch of your choice
  • Sweep the walkways and porch or entryway
  • Hose off or pressure wash these areas if they need it
  • Wash down the front door or give it a new coat of paint

BREAK OUT THE PUMPKINS

One of the simplest ways to create eye-catching decor is artistically arranging a collection of pumpkins in various sizes, shapes and colors.  Intersperse them with lanterns, candles, mums or other potted plants in fall colors…and don’t forget the wreath on the door!

LET THE KIDS HELP, TOO

Decorating for Halloween isn’t just a job for adults…do something fun with the kids.  Carving out the Jack-O-Lantern is a great activity for the whole family and it gives your children (grandchildren, nieces or nephews!) pride and ownership in your decorations.  And don’t forget the string of lights!  Instead of candles (which can blow out or be unsafe) use string lights to set off your artwork.

Shop for inexpensive lawn decorations with your kids.  They’ll have fun every year getting them out and preparing for the next Halloween and it will also put a smile on the faces of the neighborhood children. DON’T forget to shop discount Halloween decorations right after Halloween to save for next year!

DAY OF THE DEAD

Finally, consider adding a little culture lesson when you are decorating.  Day of the Dead is celebrated in Mexico on November 1 and November 2.  Other countries have similar celebrations to remember and honor relatives who have passed.  Read up on the celebration with your kids by clicking here.

While shopping for decorations you will see some of the things used to decorate for Day of the Dead.  Why not add some fun ones outside or inside of your house!  Marigolds are the flowers associated with this celebration because they are believed to lure souls back from the dead to the land of the living with their vibrant colors and powerful scents.

Fall is also a GREAT time to paint the exterior of your home if you are considering protecting, refreshing or updating your home.  The temperatures are good for painting and your curb appeal will sparkle.  Give Britt a call now for a free, no-obligation estimate.
