Brighten your mood – 9 ideas for Spring.  What better time to refresh your home.  Embrace the new season and sweep away the winter blahs…ahh, springtime!  Ok, so it’s not quite spring, but IT IS time to begin planning and getting ready for the change of seasons.  Let’s honor this special time of year between the closing of winter’s coldness and the emergence of budding spring by planning and preparing to celebrate it.  So let the ideas begin!

INDOOR IDEAS

BRING IN FRESH FLOWERS

Spring decor doesn’t have to be hard.  The first sign of spring is when the grape hyacinth and daffodils break the soil and begin to bloom.  So, take a walk around your yard and see if you have any flowers blooming.  You may find some late-blooming camellias or some showy greenery.  If you buy flowers be sure to visit your local grocery store to find beautiful, inexpensive bouquets.

REPLACE YOUR TOWELS

Another quick, budget friendly way to breathe spring into your home is to purchase some new towels.  Think Easter egg colors like pink, lavender, yellow or green.  Don’t forget hand towels and your kitchen accessories.  Your whole home gets a breath of fresh air.

PAINT AN ACCENT WALL

It may be time to repaint your entire interior. Give it a fresh, new updated look. However, you may only have the budget for a room or two.  The living area and kitchen are great choices because they are the rooms you tend to live and entertain in.  Choose one wall as a focal point and choose a stand-out color for an accent wall.  Choose a terracotta, sky blue, sage green or a soft yellow.

LIGHTEN UP YOUR BEDDING AND HEAVY FABRICS

Time to change the comforter and blankets to something that says “light and airy.”  Select fabrics like cotton or linen for curtains, throws and pillow covers.  And speaking of pillows, invest in a few whimsical pillows to spread around the house.  They don’t have to cost an arm and a leg to be lovely and decorative.

REARRANGE YOUR FURNITURE

It may just be time for a little change up that will make all the difference in how you see your living space.  Of course, everyone’s rooms are slightly different, so check out these ideas for furniture arrangement from Better Homes and Gardens.  You are sure to find one that suits your new spring decor!

EXTERIOR IDEAS

PAINT YOUR FRONT DOOR

What is the easiest (and most affordable) way to make a great first impression?  Choose an inspiring and eye-catching color for your front door.  A great front door color can change the look and feel of your entire home.  Take your time and consider a wide range of colors.  Choose from basic black to red or yellow or even candy pink!  The possibilities are endless.

CHANGE THE WELCOME MAT

Your welcome mat gets a real workout in winter.  Rain, snow and freezing temperatures along with all the shoe and boot wiping leave your welcome mat looking old and worn out.  So, find one that brings you joy (and complements your new front door color) and treat yourself!

BREAK OUT THE FLOWER POTS

It’s almost time for a trip to the garden center.  Brightly colored pots in an array of cheerful colors will boost everyone’s spirits.  Plant them with pansies now for transitional color.  When the weather gets warmer, replace them with plants that will bloom and add interest through the summer. Begonias, vinca, caladiums and trailing vines make good choices!

WORK ON YOUR CURB APPEAL

Warmer weather just seems to call me outdoors.  So, go out and look around.  Don’t let the weeds get ahead of you!  This time of year is perfect for weeding and edging beds.  You may want to paint or replace your mailbox.  Your home may be in need of a fresh coat of paint…you may even want to change the color.  Are your shutters faded?  Does your walk way need cleaning?  This is more than a one day job.  But getting started now will ensure you are ready when spring has sprung!
